Why Being Yourself Scares The Crap Out Of You

Let’s talk about something scary. Not ghosts or clowns, but something way more terrifying: being yourself. Yep, you read that right. Showing the world your true colors, quirks, and all can feel like walking a tightrope without a net.

being yourself

So, what’s the big deal? Well, imagine putting your heart on a platter and inviting everyone to take a stab at it. It’s not exactly appealing, is it? The fear of judgment, rejection, and criticism lurks in the shadows, ready to pounce. It’s like that sinking feeling in your stomach when you realize you’ve accidentally sent a work email to your entire family. Only, instead of embarrassing cat memes, you’re exposing your soul. Ouch!

But here’s the kicker: why does it hurt so much when others don’t like the real you? It’s like a cosmic slap in the face to your self-worth. When someone rejects you, it’s easy to internalize their opinion and start doubting yourself. “Maybe they’re right,” your inner critic whispers. “Maybe I am weird, boring, or just plain wrong.”

But here’s the truth bomb: you don’t need anyone’s validation to be worthy. You are enough, just as you are. It’s like having a rock-solid foundation beneath you. No matter how many storms of rejection come your way, you’re standing strong, being yourself.

I remember a time when I was terrified to share my love for writing. What if people laughed at my stories? What if they thought my writings are not refined? Fear held me back for years. But then, one day, I decided to say “screw it” and hit publish. The world didn’t end. Some people loved my writing, others didn’t. But guess what? I survived. And more importantly, I discovered a part of myself that I absolutely adore.

So, next time you’re tempted to hide your true colors, remember this: your authenticity is your superpower. It sets you apart from the crowd and makes you undeniably you. And that’s something to celebrate. So go forth and be your amazing, weird, wonderful self. The world needs more of it.

Have you ever felt scared to be yourself? How did you overcome it?

👌👌👌 deep insight. As it’s psychological fact that people fear to loose their comfort, their ownership in other things, and being oneself invokes fears of loosing them, hence one fears.
