I’ve always been a bit of a beet-hater. Who likes those earthy, reddish things, right? But then, my neighbor whipped up this amazing beetroot ladoo, and my mind was blown. It was like a flavor explosion in my mouth!
What I realized is that it wasn’t the beet itself that was the problem. It was how it was prepared. When cooked right, it’s pretty tasty. This got me thinking about spirituality. Sometimes, spirituality can be presented in a less appealing way. Maybe it’s too rigid, too judgmental, or just plain boring. But when presented in a loving, understanding, and flexible way, it can be truly transformative.

It’s like trying a new restaurant. You might order a dish that looks a bit strange, but when you taste it, you’re pleasantly surprised. It’s all about giving things a chance, especially when it comes to something as important as spirituality.
Same is with love, if someone tried to introduce you to love by only showing you the negative aspects – heartbreak, jealousy, and betrayal. Would you still want to experience love? Probably not.
But what if they showed you the beauty of love – the joy, the connection, the unconditional support? You’d probably be more open to the idea. It’s the same with spirituality. We need to focus on the positive aspects, the love, the peace, and the connection to something greater than ourselves.
Yoga philosophy teaches us that our perceptions shape our reality. Just like our taste buds can be conditioned to enjoy certain flavors, our minds can be conditioned to perceive the world in a certain way. We might miss its true essence if we approach spirituality with a closed mind. Yoga encourages us to be open-minded and to explore different perspectives. By cultivating a sense of curiosity and non-judgment, we can discover the beauty and depth of spirituality.
So, give it another chance the next time you encounter something that seems off-putting. You might be surprised by what you discover.
